On 8 February 2024, the Finance Minister presented the West Bengal Budget 2024-25. Under this scheme, a one-time grant of Rs 10,000 is given to every class XII student of government/government-aided/sponsored schools and madrassas for purchasing a tablet/smartphone. More than 3.67 crore students have benefited so far, which includes about 9.7 lakh students in 2023-24. Around 40,000 students will benefit from this scheme in 2023-24. A budget of Rs 900 crore has been set under this scheme.

Eligibility Criteria for WB Taruner Swapna Scheme
- Applicant must be a permanent resident of West Bengal State.
- The applicant should be a student.
- Students of 11th and 12th will be eligible for this scheme.
- The annual income of the family of the applicant student should not exceed Rs 2 lakh.
- Students with backlog are not eligible as this grant is for one-time only.
