What is Pongal Gift 2025
In anticipation of the Pongal festival celebrated on January 14, the Tamil Nadu government has started distributing tokens for Pongal gift packages. The distribution of gift packages will start from January 9. This year’s Pongal gifts include Rs 1,000 in cash and a package of 21 essential commodities like rice, sugar, tamarind and sugarcane. For which the Tamil Nadu government has set a total budget of Rs 249 crore. All the beneficiaries will get 1 kg rice, 1 kg sugar, jaggery, sugarcane and free dhoti and saree. The scheme will cover 2,20,94,585 rice ration card holders, apart from families living in Sri Lankan Tamil resettlement camps. The Tamil Nadu government has also started the production of 1.77 crore dhotis and an equal number of sarees for the 2025 Pongal festival.

Objective of Pongal Gift
The main objective of Tamil Nadu government to launch Pongal gift is to provide financial assistance of ₹1000 along with rice, sugar, wheat, sugarcane etc. to all the ration card holders of the state to celebrate the Pongal festival happily. According to Malaimalar report, the gift packages will be distributed from January 9 to January 13 from various ration shops in the state of Tamil Nadu. To avoid crowding, ration shop staff have started door-to-door distribution of tokens bearing date and time for collection of Pongal gift packages.
